Moreover, taekwondo is deeply rooted in Asian macro philosophy which perceives the surrounding nature as a whole where mankind can exist harmoniously with the environment.” (NOTE: Click on "Taekwondo People", bottom left)(Originally Published: 2/5/2009; Last DCTKD update: 2/18/2009) - Dr. Ken Min, Father of UC Berkeley MA Program (MOOKAS)

“‘This is my teaching philosophy: You train yourself whether it’s a rainy day or hot or cold or you have an aching body or you’ve been out all night with your boyfriend or girlfriend,’ says [Dr. Ken] Min, who speaks of martial arts in relation to Confucian and Buddhist ideas about how to co-exist in the world. ‘You keep training. That leads to discipline, controlling your lifestyle, knowing yourself more, building confidence. Self-defense is just a small portion. The most important thing is to respect yourself as a human being. If you don’t respect yourself as a human being, you don’t respect anybody else. Everybody is on an equal basis. That’s the baseline for democracy. Self-respect is the ultimate goal.’”(Originally Published: 3/23/2007; Last DCTKD update: 3/27/2007) - A New Look for Joe College: From Letter-Sweater to Black Belt (Black Belt)
