How does Free apply to Aiki
When I place "free" and "Aiki" together, it is in order to make a proposal and a request -- that the ideas be considered together in all the ways they may influence each other. Here are some examples:
Please free aiki.
Set this idea at liberty where once it was locked in dojos as the property of martial arts. Release it from the obsessive pursuit of victory in battle and rid its practice of those complusions which confine, limit, embarrass, and oppress by striving for muscular triumph over attackers real and imagined. This is not to say that there is no place for victory, only that the path to true victory goes by way of the self. I release my need to beat you to protect myself in favor of understanding how we can work together to make our conflict obsolete.
Aiki is free.
In addition to a concept of "aiki" that is not imprisoned or enslaved, make it obtainable without payment. The student is free to offer all the supprt they can, including but not limited to support of a financial and temporal nature, but remains unconstrained. Training is unobstructed by the presence or lack of money, while each student understands that the best training happens when the dojo is supported and moves forward without financial blockages. Obligations are taken on as training opportunities, not because there will be punitive measures. As in the world of software, assist the spread of aiki by having very few limitations on its distribution or the improvement of understanding aiki through practice.
