The posthumous collection of images and stories by aikido sensei Terry Dobson is famously entitled "It's a lot like dancing...an aikido journey". The type of dance known as Contact Improvisation originated in the movements of aikido, though that origin has been downplayed as the form moved beyond its origin. Dancers in the aikido world have extended "aiki" metaphors and investigated the ways in which dance and aikido suggest parallel themes and discoveries, many of which convey practices which can benefit anyone who explores them. This research portal is a collection in progress of writing and images illustrating the treasures located at the crossroads of dance and aikido.
