Going beyond the study or philosophy of beauty and appearance, aesthetics is concerned with sense, the somatic impact of experience turning into meaning. There is an intentional artistic quality that accompanies participating in the world, in life sensed and imagined, that makes understanding possible and ethics essential. Archetypal Psychology has made a tremendous contribution to this sense of the aesthetic in a world dominated by anaesthetic and mechanistic systems.
