A range of narratives, not requiring fairies but most often connecting folk with magic and dream-like imaginal beings, recognizable and symbolic animals, and fantastic and mysterious entities. Various sytems and methods of analysis have been brought to bear on this part of human experience, such as the cataloguing systems that attempt to create clear distinctions between themes, motifs, and plot elements. Without analysis or categorization, oral and written tales have probably also been a part of becoming human, interpreting experience and making meaning through narrative, and participating in culture as long as their have been human beings. Most tales are relatively concise in presentation, whereas "lore" tends to go on a bit longer.
