This is Brandon writing.
I am heartbroken to write that a matchless, beautiful spirit and determined colleague working for social justice has been murdered. According to The Columbian,
"A couple found dead Wednesday evening in a Vancouver house died in a murder-suicide, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office. Cheryl L. Honey, 57, was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest and left arm; Robert G. Hedgers, 51, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, according to results of autopsies performed by Clark County Medical Examiner, Dr. Dennis Wickham."
This is also to let the young people whom she loved dearly, Addie Sims, Emma Rose Sims, Nate Kangur, and Kristin Kangur, that they are held in prayer and supported, and that they may call out when they are in need and be heard, just like Cheryl listened to so many over her years of dedicated service.
I co-facilitated with Cheryl on several occasions, managed the Caring and Sharing group with her during the first Nexus for Change conference at Bowling Green U, and we got together when she came through the SF Bay Area. I will miss Skype and phone conversations with her, and most of all the tender warmth of her stories, her heart, and her innate and overflowing capacity to care deeply for and about everyone she touched.

Community Weaving is a innovative approach I pioneered to foster a community of responsible citizens who create Family Support Networks where they share their time, gifts, talents and resources with others. This community mobilization strategy increases civic engagement and social capital by tapping grass root resources resulting in the creation of healthy thriving communities. Family Support Networks meet the needs of families and children in the old fashioned way, neighbor to neighbor. Through the use of telephones and a web-based technology families can easily and immediately access a myriad of resources to help themselves and others in the community.
Connected referrals from local organizations to Family Advocates and Good Neighbors in the Family Support Network who provided them with the resources they needed to improve their life circumstance. Personally provided transitional housing for over 100 families in transition due to hardship.

July 1, 2007, Brandon D. was with another company when working with Cheryl at Family Support Network, InternationalCheryl offers a dynamic and supportive relational quality that is very hard to find, especially in addition to follow-through, expansive cultivation of community resources, and willingness to include every voice that needs to be heard so that everybody in a given sphere of influence can get to what is needed. While in direct contact with me and my colleagues, she created an environment that brought people with needs together with people with capacity and funding in a collaborative drive that resulted in inclusivity and success well beyond what was hoped and projected.
