  • September 21 is the United Nations International Day of Peace. Every year, hundreds of peace-oriented organizations worldwide celebrate that day with thousands of Peace Day events. Joining other Aikido practitioners around the world, inspired by the unique embodied peacemaking legacy of O’Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, Aikido of Berkeley, under the direction of founder and Chief Instructor, Kayla Feder, will be part of the global celebration. They will be joined by students from Free Aiki Dojo and Golden Bears Aikido at UC Berkeley (Chief Instructor Brandon WilliamsCraig). This represents an opportunity to increase public awareness of Aikido as a joyful practice of reconciliation, compassion, and nonviolence.

We also believe this celebration transcends the divisions of different schools, styles, and organizations, and that our collective action will make each of our efforts far more newsworthy than they would be in isolation. Embodying this "training across borders," Aiki Extensions, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the application of Aiki principles in situations outside the dojo, is organizing International Aiki Peace Week. A map of participating dojos around the world illustrates the sheer quantity of communities that are sharing Aikido’s peacemaking message.

We invite you to join us. All you have to do is contact us to join peace-focused Aikido classes during Aiki Peace Week Sept 20-26 http://www.aikipeaceweek.org/.

On September 21st, we will offer a special class for the general public (no prior experience required) that teaches Aiki principles as a way of managing conflict and preventing violence. The class will be followed by a community potluck and celebration which you are invited to attend.
Please come celebrate with us the real practice of peace in our time. Aikido of Berkeley - 1352 S 49th St. Richmond, CA  94804. Please come at 6pm to sign-in and change into clothes in which you can move easily. Class will be from 6:30-8:15ish.
