This is an ongoing research project in support of the continuing development of the Martial Nonviolence method. "Excuse me" side-steps

Physical and Verbal distinctions:

Front side-step = move front foot first either to the same or opposite side

Back side-step = move back foot first either to the same or opposite side

As usual, vocal inflection is paired with physical orientation:

Anterior (lifting inflection with forward move/irimi/entering) https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/anterior#English

Lateral (neutral inflection with movement to the side and turning out) https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/lateral#English or Medial (to the side and turning in) https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/medial#English

Posterior (dropping inflection while withdrawing to the side) https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/posterior#English

Additional descriptors: use distal to indicate distance from speaker's intent while moving further https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/distal#English or proximal to indicate sympathy while moving nearer https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/proximal#English
